Confrontation

Mornings Before School

Little girls respond with
the delayed look,
slowly,
over their shoulder
and up
right into your eyes
with a hint of
disdain.

Boys begin with
muscle tension,
the trace of a
head shake
and
direct refusal
followed
by a plea
for mercy
or
reason
to prevail.

In the end
both relent
but
there is no surrender
only
impatient delay.

  1. Boy, isn't that the truth! Always asserting their desire for independence.

  2. The "grandchild chronicles" somehow bear a strong resemblance to the "child chronicles".

  3. Are you helping out with the grandkids and school schedules, too? Luckily for me I am only picking up grandchildren after school and not getting them off in the morning. They always seem EAGER for the part I'm assigned to oversee. I'm glad I don't have the morning duty.
